The Lucid Debuts ‘Maskronaut’ Video; Establishes GoFundMe For Guitarist

Courtesy: O’Donnell Media Group

The Lucid debuted the video for its latest single to open the weekend.

The band premiered the video for its single, ‘Maskronaut’ Friday. The song is the fourth from the band’s self-titled debut record, which was released in October. The album has also produced the singles,  ‘Hair,‘ ‘Deaths of Despair,‘ and  ‘Maggot Wind.’

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Maskronaut’ is a gentle, flowing composition. The use of the string arrangement alongside the sounds of the song’s primary instrumentation and vocals serves well to bring out the best of the song’s deep emotion in its alt-rock approach and sound.

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the press release announcing its premiere. The lyrics provided with the song’s video hint at the song being somewhat multi-purpose. It could be a love song for some. For others it could be a song simply about one person expressing his or her appreciation for that other person. Either way, the positive, uplifting lyrics here are certain to engage and entertain audiences.

The video for ‘Maskronaut’ is a unique way to illustrate the song’s message. It features two people in astronaut suits going around amid large crowds of people. These two people are the only ones wearing the suits, standing out against everyone else. Meanwhile, footage of military people being united and reunited with their families is mixed in randomly. The astronaut couple eventually take off their helmets at the end and embrace. The duality there really does help express the duality in the song’s lyrics, again how they really could be used in either noted situation. To that end, the video is a unique presentation.

In related news, the band has set up a GoFundMe page to help guitarist Dave Fortier pay for the costs of surgery that followed a recent testicular cancer diagnosis. Fortier is recovering from his surgery. Donations can be made to the GoFundMe account here.

The Lucid Debuts New Single, ‘Hair,’ Companion Video; Live Dates Scheduled For May

Courtesy: SpoiledHead Records

Hard rock super group The Lucid debuted its latest single and video this week.

The band — Vinnie Dombroski (Sponge), Mike Heller (Fear Factory) and David Ellefson (ex-Megadeth) — premiered its new single, ‘Hair‘ and its video Tuesday. The song and its video are the third from the band’s self-titled debut record, which was released in October. Their premieres follow those of ‘Deaths of Despair‘ and its video, and ‘Maggot Wind.’

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Hair’ is a tense, blues-based rock composition. It is driven in large part through its bass line and vocals. The drums and guitar come across here more as accompaniment than lead. The tension in the song’s arrangement tends to play well opposite the song’s seeming lyrical theme.

The seeming lyrical theme hints at perhaps someone dealing with alcohol addiction. That is inferred as Dombroski sings about a person having “tile imprints” on his/her knees and “drinking yourself to sleep” as well as the mention of one person never being there to hold the other person’s hair. This is all this critic’s interpretation, as no explanation for the song’s theme is offered in the press release announcing the video’s premiere.

Speaking of the song’s video, it tells a different story. Directed by and starring Hannah Fierman, the video features a couple meeting randomly at a literal crossroads. As the couple’s relation progresses, the man seems to preoccupied to give the woman the time of day. Of course it has a surprise ending, which will be left for audiences to discover for themselves. The ending leaves audiences scratching their heads. It leads one to wonder if perhaps the addiction noted in the song is not necessarily to alcohol but anything but the woman and the man is voicing regret for having those addictions. Again, this is just this critic’s interpretation.

Fortier talked about the video treatment.

“It was fascinating to watch Hannah unleash her remarkable creativity for this music video,” he said. “We are all thrilled and moved by what she was able to accomplish visually with this song. It was an exciting, dark, twisted, collaboration showcasing the band’s irreverence perfectly. We think everyone is going to get such a big kick out of it.”

Fierman added, “The Lucid gave me artistic freedom to do whatever I wanted with the music video but they also had some fantastic ideas of their own once we began brainstorming. We decided on mostly black & white neo noir early on in the process. My background in horror is apparent but works with the energy of the song. It was truly a blast creating this video with such fun and talented artists.”

The Lucid Debuts ‘Deaths Of Despair’ Video

Courtesy: SpoiledHead Records

Rock super group The Lucid debuted the video for its latest single this week.

The band premiered the video for its new single, ‘Deaths of Despair‘ Wednesday. The song is the second single from the band’s self-titled debut album, which was released Oct. 15 through SpoiledHead Records. The band premiered the album’s lead single, ‘Maggot Wind’ in September.

The musical arrangement featured in The Lucid’s new single is a blues-rock style composition. The combination of the instrumentation and vocals lend the song’s arrangement somewhat to comparison to works from Stone Temple Pilots.

Information about the song’s lyrical theme was not provided in the news release announcing the debut of the song and its video. The lyrics provided with the video leave themselves up to interpretation, too.

The song’s video features the band — Vinnie Dombroski (Sponge), Mike Heller (Fear Factory) and David Ellefson (ex-Megadeth) — performing its new single in a very tight rehearsal space.

In other news, The Lucid has announced a brief live run. The band’s upcoming mini-tour is scheduled to run from May 20-28. The tour schedule is noted below along with links for tickets.

Rock Super Group The Lucid Announces New Album Details; Premieres Album’s Lead Single

Courtesy: O’Donnell Media Group

Members of Sponge, Fear Factory, and an ex-member of Megadeth have joined to make a new super group.

Vinnie Dombroski (Sponge), Mike Heller (Fear Factory) and David Ellefson (ex-Megadeth) have joined with guitarist Drew Fortier (Bango Tango, David Ellefson, Zen From Mars) to form the new rock super group, The Lucid. The group is scheduled to release its self-titled debut album Oct. 15 through SpoilerHead Records.

Ellefson said in a prepared statement, he was looking forward to the album’s release.

“It’s been a real blast making a record with these guys and I must say that it’s refreshing to explore some new musical avenues….to step out a bit from what each of us have done stylistically in our own careers,” he said. “There was an effortless synergy that came with creating these songs together which is always amazing when working with new people. I’m looking forward to everyone checking it out!”

Pre-orders are open now. The album’s track listing is noted below.

The Lucid will feature the following track listing:

1.Maggot Wind
2.Deaths of Despair
3.Spoiler Head
4.Hair
5.Maskronaut
6.Damned
7.Breech Boy
8.Pigs and Sons
9.Parade of Spit

In anticipation of the album’s release, the band premiered the record’s lead single, ‘Maggot Wind’ Wednesday. The song’s title conjures thoughts of something heavy and intense, but ironically, the song’s musical arrangement is anything but. Rather, it lends itself more to comparison to works from the likes of Alter Bridge. Just as interesting is that even with that in mind, the sound of Dombroski’s voice as he sings is comparable to that of the late great Stone Temple Pilots/Velvet Revolver front man Scott Weiland.

No information was provided about the lyrical theme featured in ‘Maggot Wind’ in the press release announcing the band’s formation, album details, and single debut. However, in looking at the lyrics provided with the song, it would seem that the song’s lyrical theme is a commentary of sorts about the state of the world. That is just this critic’s own interpretation.

In other news, Ellefson and Fortier are scheduled to appear together at a trio of dates this fall to support their new horror film, Dwellers. The movie is scheduled for release on Blu-ray and digital streaming services Oct. 12. It is available to pre-order through various limited edition bundles here.

Ellefson and Fortier’s scheduled appearances are noted below.

Crypticon, Minneapolis, MN – Sept. 10-12
Dead Conventions, Fort Wayne, IN – Oct 15-17
Chiller Theater, Parsippany, NJ – Oct 29-31
