ESPN and the Southern Conference have reached a new broadcast deal.

The announcement was made Tuesday. The new six-year deal runs through the 2025-26 season and will give the conference more visibility across the ESPN networks. Among the most notable of the coverage increases is an increase in the conference’s basketball games, including its semifinals and championship.

SoCon Commissioner Jim Schaus spoke positively about the new deal in a prepared statement.

“We are excited to continue our long-standing relationship with ESPN,” said Schaus. “This agreement represents the most national television exposure with ESPN in conference history, which is critical as we continue to grow our successful brand into our second century of excellence. The Southern Conference is truly on the rise and this new agreement will further propel the league to even greater heights in the future. Special thanks goes to ESPN’s Dan Margulis and our media consultant CSMG in artfully guiding this process.”

Dan Margulis, ESPN senior director, programming and acquisitions, echoed Schaus’ sentiments in his own statement.

“We are thrilled to extend our relationship with the Southern Conference through this new long-term agreement, especially on the verge of the league’s 100-year celebration in 2021. We look forward to showcasing even more SoCon events across our ESPN networks and digital platforms over the next six years,” he said.

The Southern Conference and ESPN have maintained a working relationship for almost 20 years.
