Kings Of Quarantine Debuts ‘Mountain Song’ Cover, Companion Video

Rock super group Kings of Quarantine debuted the video for its latest single this week.

The band — Jason Rockman (Slaves on Dope), Kevin Jardine (Slaves on Dope), and Bill Kelliher (Mastodon) — debuted the video for its cover of the hit Janes Addiction song ‘Mountain Song‘ Tuesday. The band was joined by an all-star cast of musicians for the video and the song, consisting of: Wes Borland (Limp Bizkit), Tanner Wayne (In Flames), P-Nut (311), Louise Post (Veruca Salt), Richard Patrick (Filter), and Bert McCracken (The Used).

Kings of Quarantine’s take on ‘Mountain Song’ stays largely true to its source material. What it does extra is gives the song an added punch with its multiple vocal takes and even heavier, amped up guitars.

One hundred percent of sales from the single’s release will go to benefit Roadie Relief, an effort that serves to assist roadies who were negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rockman talked about that attempt to help concert staff through the song’s sales in a prepared statement.

“We hope to not only put a smile on people’s faces, but also help the touring staff that have been severely affected by the pandemic”, said Rockman.

Kings of Quarantine’s latest single and video are the second from the group. The trio covered Faith No More’s 1987 hit song ‘We Care A Lot‘ last year. The group was joined by members of Anthrax, Korn, Filter, Run DMC, Refused, and Men Without Hats for that recoding and its video.

Drones Releases New Single, ‘Learn’

Courtesy: Thousand Islands Records

Independent punk rock band Drones debuted the fourth single from its new record this week.

The band debuted its single ‘Learn‘ Tuesday. The song is featured in the band’s forthcoming album Our Hell is Right Here, which is scheduled for release Feb. 12 through Thousand Islands Records. Pre-orders are open for Our Hell Is Right Here.

The new single’s premiere follows that of the album’s first three singles: ‘Josephine,’ ‘Our Hell is Right Here‘ and ‘Epitaph.’

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Learn’ is a fiery, emo-punk style composition. The pairing of the instrumentation and vocalist Lois McDougall’s vocal delivery style makes the arrangement in whole a work that will appeal to fans of bands, such as The Used, Set It Off, and others of that ilk.

The lyrical theme that accompanies the song’s musical arrangement focuses on the familiar topic of dealing with difficulties in relationships, according to McDougall.

“Learn is about the desperate struggle to make a failing relationship work,” she said.  “You can feel that it’s not right but you still care about the other person. We seem to make the same mistakes over and over by assuming we know what the other person is thinking, so communication stops. We keep trying to force a relationship to work with someone that we’re just not meant to be with. If it’s more of a struggle than not…it’s not worth it. You should never diminish any part of yourself for someone else because, ultimately, you’ll end up resenting them.”

Lonelyouth Debuts New Single, ‘In The Deep,’ Companion Video

Independent metalcore band Lonelyouth debuted its new single ‘In The Deep’ this week along with the single’s companion lyric video.

The band band debuted the song and video Friday. The song’s musical arrangement immediately lends itself to comparisons to works from the likes of Hatebreed, 36 Crazyfists, and The Used.

Guitarist Josh Dawn offered his thoughts on the song’s arrangement in a recent interview.

“‘In the Deep’ brings to mind the sweat and blood covered basement show where you get punched in the face with rhythms and melodies big enough to get an arena airborne,” he said. “This song rattles your bones and peaks those adrenaline levels. If you have no fear of your blood vessels bursting go ahead and spin it.”

Front man Tyler Vinatelli expanded on Dawn’s comments.

“Blending influences of the Nu-metal kings we grew up, mixed with inspiration from the metalcore giants we watched at shows and where we found our home comes ‘In The Deep,’” said Vinatelli. “A perfect blend of aggressive, and melodic that pushes the boundaries of what is going on in heavy music today. If you’re looking for something fresh and real to bang your head to, give it a spin or 100. It’s a new era for Lonelyyouth.”

The lyric video for ‘In The Deep’ places the song’s lyrics over a backdrop of rain falling on a road. That backdrop changes constantly between a medium and close-up shot while the presentation of the lyrics changes style throughout, too.

Speaking of lyrics, the song’s lyrical theme comes across as a commentary on the balance between those people who are so narcissistic, needing constant reassurance and praise, and those people who can’t help but feel like they are not good enough. It’s an argument of sorts, it seems, as the song’s subject notes not needing that attention, just dealing with the noted feelings of insecurity and depression, while the other is just a person being selfish and self-centered. This seeming theme, coupled with the song’s musical arrangement, makes for a song that is sure to engage listeners.
