Forget vacations, try a stay-cation with Mill Creek’s “Beautiful PLanet” blu-ray’s

Travelling anywhere in the world today is anything but cheap.  And considering the trouble of going through security checkpoints and all the other combined stresses, it’s enough to make one want to opt more for a “stay-cation.”  Well, thanks to Mill Creek Entertainment, those “stay-cations” have just become that much more enjoyable.  That’s because the company released two brand new blu-rays this month in a franchise titled, “Beautiful Planet.”  The first of that pair focuses on Spain and Portugal.

“Beautiful Planet:  Spain & Portugal” is a stunning look at the history, architecture and culture of the two neighboring regions.  The tour of the regions is guided by a narrator who sounds like she more than likely is from one country or the other.  That adds to a certain realism to the journey through the streets of Barcelona, Oporto and the rest of the major cities in both nations.  Staying on that same note, viewers are offered the option of which city they want to “explore” on the blu-ray’s main menu.  Those who opt to watch the entire feature from start to finish instead of choosing cities, are given a map of the country pointing out the cities that will be covered in each segment.  As minor as it is, that in itself is a bonus to the overall presentation.  Literally mapping out each city covered in the feature teaches at least a little bit of geogrpahy.  So kudos to Mill Creek for that.

Mill Creek’s “Beautiful Planet” blu-rays are a great way for viewers to experience the wonder of foreign nations without the costs, etc. of actually travelling.  Audiences can travel to the nations presented without leaving the comfort of their own homes with these blu-rays.  And while it’s a great way to see the world without travelling, it also serves a secondary purpose.  The secondary purpose of this “Beautiful Planet” blu-ray is educational.  The presentation of of the blu-ray is perfect for an education setting.  Whether high school or college, the focus on the arts and architecture of the countries presented present perfect examples of what were and are very important part of the countries’ histories.  The architecture of the buildings shown is absolutely outstanding.  The fact that so many of the buildings shown have lasted as long as they have is not only a tribute to their architecture in general, but also to their construction.  So even college students studying engineering and construction would benefit from watching this presentation.

Mill Creek Entertainment has hit on something very special with its “Beautiful Planet” blu-ray’s.  In an era when most families have become priced out of taking a major trip, the “Beautiful Planet:  Spain and Portugal” blu-ray allows those same families to still be able to experience the beauty of those nations without the high costs and other constraints of international travel.  It even serves an important educational function both in public schools and universities nationwide.  Even students preparing to study abroad could use this blu-ray as a prepratory course in what to expect when they do take their trip.  It could be used to point out key spots for students to visit as part of their curriculum.  Whether for its educational content or for its value as a way to see the world without travelling, “Beautiful Planet:  Spain & Portugal” is a wonderful international experience for viewers of all ages.
