Ventruss Releases Its New EP, ‘Serpent’; Debuts EP’s Latest Single

Never say never. That should be Ventruss’ motto.

That is because more than five months after debuting what its members said at the time was the last single from its new EP, Serpent, Ventruss has debuted another single from the 2021 release. The band premiered its new single, ‘Spirit of The Chosen‘ and its video Friday. The song is the fourth single from the six-song record.

The band premiered the EP’s title track and its companion video Oct. 29. The EP has also produced the singles, ‘Sentiment,‘ ‘Talladega.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Spirit of the Chosen’ is a driving, upbeat composition that is grounded in its solid time keeping and its equally cutting guitar riffs and enveloping vocals. The low end from the bass rounds out the composition with its own touch, too. The whole immediately lends the work to those of bands, such as Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, and others of that ilk.

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the press release announce the song’s premiere. The lyrics provided with the song’s video makes relatively clear that the song deals with someone coping with the loss of a loved one. This is inferred directly through the lines, “Sent to the sky/Seen through your eyes/With the wings you’re given to fly/And soar through the sky/Why did you die?”

Serpent was released Friday through MVK Music Group.

Ventruss Premieres New Album’s Final Single, Video

Independent hard rock band Ventruss gave audiences what its members said is the last preview of its new album late last month.

The band premiered its new single, ‘Serpent’ and its companion video Oct. 29. The title track from the band’s forthcoming EP, which is expected for release in 2022 (its release date is under consideration) and the record’s third single. The EP has also produced the singles, ‘Sentiment‘ and ‘Talladega.’

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Serpent’ is an intense composition. Its heavy guitars, its blend of screams and clean vocals, tight time keeping and thick bass line come together to make the composition comparable to works from the likes of Dry Kill Logic and Trivium.

The song’s lyrical theme is heavy in its own right. The band discussed that topic in a prepared statement.

“Every story has a villain and unfortunately, the way they become the villain is by gaining power,” the statement reads. “The title “Serpent” refers to a snake slithering in the grass searching for prey and once you’re bitten, the wound is hard to heal. They put on an act to disguise their true intentions. And worst of all, they love to watch you suffer. But don’t worry, the quicker they rise, the faster they fall.”

The video for Serpent is its own interesting presentation. It features the band in what looks like an asylum, performing its new single. Front man Ben Jewell is draped in a straight jacket as he performs his part. Various video effects are used throughout the video to add to the overall impact of the song and its visual companion.

Ventruss Brings Mental Health Discussion To The Fore In New Single, Video

Independent metal band Ventruss is tackling a familiar topic in its latest single and companion video.

The band premiered its new single, ‘Sentiment‘ and its companion lyric video Friday. The premiere of the song and its video came more than two months after the premiere of the band’s then latest single, ‘Talladega.’

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Sentiment’ takes the band’s heavy sound a step beyond that featured in ‘Talladega.’ It blends elements of sounds from bands, such as Whitechapel, Killswitch Engage, and Upon a Burning Body for its presentation. The heaviness in that sound and stylistic approach works well with the emotion exuded through the song’s lyrical theme.

Front man Ben Jewell talked about the song’s lyrical theme in a prepared statement.

“There’s a lot to take from ‘Sentiment,’ he said.Mental illness is real and can affect relationships with family and friends. It may be hard to understand from the outside and can be easily perceived as a red flag, but internally that person has much more going on and before you know it, they can end their own life.”

Added Jewell, “This happened to me a few years back and once it did, I was having flashbacks of my weakest moments and feeling like I had absolutely no one but in reality, I was the one keeping myself locked in my own mind. This is not only a heavy track musically and lyrically but also a cry for help.”

The ‘Sentiment’ lyric video features the song’s lyrics placed over a background of images, such as a skull, chains, and a cog. The imagery is used to help translate the message in the song’s lyrical theme and visualize the feelings that people suffering from mental health concerns experience. Interestingly enough, the lyrics are presented in a font that fans of Whitechapel will find familiar.
