Shout! Factory’s 2019 World Series Documentary Will Score With Team’s Fans

Courtesy: Shout! FactoryMLB Productions

Winter is here again, and with it, the return of the seasonal indoor sports.  Luckily though, Jack Frost’s annual visit to America doesn’t last but so long.  In other words, it might feel like a long wait for the return of warm weather and the sights and sounds of the ballpark, but it really won’t be that long.  While those of us who prefer warmer temperatures and baseball wait for opening day (and even just spring training), Major League Baseball Productions and Shout! Factory have partnered to offer those fans a way to pass the colder months in the form of the 2019 World Series Champions: Washington Nationals.  The 90-minute documentary takes audiences back through the season-long story of the unlikely champions.  Given, it certainly won’t appeal to fans of the Houston Astros, but clearly will for fans of the Nats and for sports enthusiasts in general who might not have a favorite team.  That is due in large part to the documentary’s story, which will be addressed shortly.  The program’s bonus content adds to its appeal for the noted audiences.  The primary and secondary content considered together, the presentation’s average price point proves to be money well-spent among the noted audiences.  When that price point is considered alongside the noted content, all three items together make 2019 World Series Champions: Washington Nationals a presentation that the noted audiences will find, a positive way to pass the months until spring returns.

Shout! Factory and Major League Baseball Productions’ annual season-ending MLB documentary is officially here, and it will certainly appeal to the Nats’ fans.  That is due in large part to the program’s overall story.  Audiences are presented here, the Nationals’ season-long story.  From the team’s early season lows and struggles to its unexpected turnaround late in the season.  From game to game, that never-say-die attitude showed, even as the team had its back constantly against the wall.  Even as the team went down three games to two in the World Series, audiences see firsthand, the team’s resolve and determination to keep fighting.  The editing and narration incorporated into the program add even more enjoyment for the noted audiences.  Each hit, catch and dive works with the additional background in the narration and interview making the experience that much richer for audiences.  Audiences get to experience the post-game press conferences, in which the teams’ managers express their calm despite the situations.  The moments immediately after the games in which the players make their way back to their respective locker rooms are there, too, adding to the story’s overall emotion.  The same can be said of the footage of the fans’ reactions throughout each game.  All things considered, the story featured here touches on every aspect of the annual Fall Classic, giving Nats fans and sports enthusiasts in general plenty to appreciate.  It forms a solid foundation for the program that is strengthened even more through the program’s bonus content.

The bonus content featured with 2019 World Series Champions: Washington Nationals strengthens the documentary’s presentation in a variety of fashions.  For those who want a shorter tale of the Nats’ season, that is there in the “Regular Season Highlights” bonus.  Nats star Juana Soto gets his own profile in the bonus features, showing his own highs and lows.  As if that is not enough, the key high points of the team’s post season are featured, too, including the team’s unexpected win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.  That was perhaps the biggest surprise of all, despite the understanding that the Nationals had their proverbial backs to the all throughout most of the regular season’s latter months and the early portion of the post season.  This highlights work with the regular season highlights and Soto’s profile to enrich the overall picture of the Nationals’ never say die attitude even more.  In turn, they serve to paint a picture that is that much richer for audiences and appealing for Washington’s most devoted fans.  The World Series celebratory parade puts the final accent to the presentation for fans, completing the overall effect and story.  Keeping that in mind, the bonus content plays its own integral part to the whole of 2019 World Series Champions: Washington Nationals.  When the bonus content is considered alongside the program’s primary content, the whole of that content gives the most devoted Nats fans more than enough to appreciate.  Keeping all of this in mind, it makes the program’s average price point accommodating for its key audiences.

The average price point for 2019 World Series Champions: Washington Nationals is $19.20.  That price was obtained by averaging price listings at MLB’s official store, Shout! Factory’s store, Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon and Barnes & Noble Booksellers.  The title was not listed at Target and Books-A-Million at the time of this review’s posting.  The price is important to note because it is the listing for the program’s Blu-ray/DVD combo pack.  That is just as important to note in its own right.  That is because regardless of whether one takes in the program and its bonus content on DVD or Blu-ray, audiences get the same content on each platform in this set.  To that end, the price point of less than $20 is money well spent for the aforementioned audiences.  It puts everyone on a level playing field – terrible pun fully intended – in terms of content and price.  MLB Shop’s listing of $17.49 is the least expensive of the listings while Amazon and Walmart only slightly more expensive at $17.89 each.  Barnes & Noble Booksellers’ listing of $21.94 is the most expensive of the listings, while Shout! Factory and Best Buy’s listing of $19.99 is the middle ground in the noted listings.  Keeping these listings in mind, the retailers’ largely sub $20 listings give audiences plenty of choices, adding even more appeal to the presentation.  When this is considered along with the program’s collective content, the whole of all of this documentary a score of its own for the most devoted Nationals fans and sports enthusiasts.

Shout! Factory and Major League Baseball’s 2019 World Series Champions: Washington Nationals is a piece that is certain to score with the most devoted Nats fans and equally devoted sports enthusiasts in general.  As has already been noted here, that is due in part to the program’s primary content, which paints a rich, vivid picture of the Nationals’ season and surprise first-ever World Series title.  The bonus content that is coupled with the noted primary content to make the general presentation one that the noted audiences will enjoy from start to end as they count down to the start of the 2020 MLB season.  The average price point of less than $20 for the DVD/BD combo pack makes the program even more appealing.  Each item noted is important in its own way to the whole of this presentation.  All things considered, they make 2019 World Series Champions: Washington Nationals a work that will score in its own way among audiences.  It is available now.  More information on this and other titles from Shout! Factory is available online at:

Cubs And Mets Meet In Series’ Rubber Match Tonight On ESPN

Courtesy: ESPN

Courtesy: ESPN

ESPN has released its Major League Baseball broadcast schedule for this week.  And it is a very busy one now that the race for the post season is on.  It all begins tonight on ESPN as the Mets take on the Cubs in Chicago.

The Mets take on the Cubs live tonight on ESPN in Chicago in the second game of a three-game series between the National League opponents.  Coverage begins at 7pm ET.  Jake Arrieta (12 – 4) is scheduled to get the start for Chicago in tonight’s interdivisional match.  Arrieta has had a little more than a week off since his last time on the mound.  That was July 8th against Pittsburgh.  That game was not an easy one for the 30-year old.  He threw 6 innings, allowing a total of 6 runs on 9 hits, 6 earned runs, 1 walk, and 2 home runs, striking out only 6 of 28 batters along the way.

On the other side of the ball Noah Syndergaard is slated to get the start for the Mets in tonight’s game.  He has had roughly the same amount of time as Arrieta to rest up for tonight’s game.  His last time on the mound was July 8th when the Mets took on the Washington Nationals.  The Nats won that game 3 – 1 with Syndergaard taking the loss for the Mets.  He allowed 3 runs on 4 hits over 4.2 innings.  He also allowed 3 earned runs, 3 walks, 1 home run and struck out 5 of 19 batters.  Even with those numbers in consideration he still fared somewhat better than Arrieta during his last outing.  In the bigger picture the Cubs took the win in the series’ opener Monday night 5 – 1.  And Chicago’s 29 -15 home record far outweighs the Mets’ 23 – 23 road record.  At the same time both teams are 4 – 6 in their last ten games.  So New York can’t be completely counted out tonight or Wednesday.

Karl Ravech will have the call for tonight’s NL matchup between the Cubs and Mets.  He will be joined in the booth by analysts Dallas Braden and Eduardo Perez for additional commentary.  As an additional note, while the game will be broadcast on television on ESPN, it will be blacked out both in the New York and Chicago market.  More information on tonight’s game is available online now along with all of the latest MLB headlines at:

Cubs, Mets Open 3-Game Series Tonight On ESPN

Courtesy: ESPN

Courtesy: ESPN

Tonight on ESPN’s Monday Night Baseball presented by USAA the Mets and Cubs face off in an interdivisional matchup.

The NL Central-leading Cubs continue their home-stand tonight when the team opens a three-game series against the Mets (NL East) on ESPN’s Monday Night Baseball presented by USAA.  The game is the opener in a three-game series between the teams.  John Lester (9 – 4) is expected to get the start for the Cubs while Steven Matz (7 – 5) is slated to get the start for the Mets.  Lester’s last time on the mound was more than a week ago on July 9th against Pittsburgh.  The Pirates won that game in dominating fashion doubling up on the Cubs 12 – 6.  Lester threw three innings in the game, allowing 5 runs on 4 hits, 5 earned runs, 3 walks, and 2 home runs.  He struck out only 2 of 16 batters that he faced.  Teammate Adam Warren, who was credited with the loss, didn’t fare much better.  Warren only threw 2 innings but allowed 7 more runs on 5 hits in that short time along with 7 earned runs, 3 walks, and 2 home runs.  He struck out only 2 of 14 batters.

Steven Matz’s last time on the mound was roughly a week ago against the Nationals on July 10th.  The Nats won that game 3 – 2.  Matz took the loss in the game.  He threw 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits along the way along with 3 earned runs, 4 walks, and 1 home run, striking out 5 of 29 batters faced.

Even with both pitchers numbers in consideration either team could win this game and series.  Chicago is 28 – 15 at home so far on the season while New York is 23 – 22 on the road so far this season.  However, the Cubs are 4- 6 in their last ten games and the Mets 5 – 5 in their last 10 games.  The Mets come into tonight’s game with some momentum, having picked up a 5 – 0 win against Philadelphia Sunday afternoon.  The Cubs come into tonight’s series opener licking its wounds after falling 4 – 1 against the Rangers on Sunday.  So each team will have its own motivation for a win tonight when the National League foes go under the lights.

Karl Ravech will have the call for the game tonight on ESPN.  He will be joined in the booth by analysts Dallas Braden and Eduardo Perez.  As an additional note the game will be blacked out in the Chicago market.  Coverage of the game is expected to begin at 7pm ET in all other markets.  More information on tonight’s game is available online now along with all of the latest MLB headlines at:

ESPN Adds Reds, Cubs Matchup To Its SNB Broadcast Schedule

MLB-on-ESPN_2012

ESPN announced the latest addition to its weekly Sunday Night Baseball presented by Taco Bell broadcast schedule this week. On June 14th, ESPN’s flagship baseball broadcast will come live from Chicago as the Cubs host the Reds in an NL Central showdown.

ESPN’s June 14th broadcast will be the closer for the teams’ four-game series, which kicks off Thursday, June 11th. Details for each team’s starting lineup will be released soon. Cincinnati (21 – 27) just finished a three-game sweep of the NL East-leading Washington Nationals on Sunday going 8 – 2 against the Nats. Cincinnati won Friday’s game 5 – 2 and went 8 -5 on Saturday. Cincinnati’s win today came courtesy of a 6-run deluge from the Reds in the 7th inning after a relatively quiet day on both sides of the bat. Before that, Washington had only allowed 2 total runs from Cincinnati. One came in the 4th and the other in the 5th. The Nats’ bullpen struggled in Sunday’s game, with starter Tanner Rourke allowing 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned runs, 2 home runs, and 2 walks in 6 innings pitched. He struck out only 1 batter along the way. Things weren’t much better for the rest of Washington’s bullpen as Matt Grace and Aaron Barrett combined to allow a total of 6 runs, 5 hits, and 6 earned runs. Grace also allowed 2 walks in his time on the mound before being pulled. On the other side of the ball, Cincinnati starter Michael Lorenzen had a slightly better day, allowing only 1 hit and striking out 4 over 6 innings. He had his share of struggles, though. He walked 6 batters, allowed 2 runs, and 2 earned runs over that span of time.

There’s no time to rest for Washington as it prepares for a 7-game home stand beginning Monday night with a three-game series against the Miwaukee Brewers. That series will be followed up by a 4-game series against the Cubs. The Reds only get a day to rest on Monday before hitting the road again on Tuesday, this time to face the Philadelphia Phillies in a three-game series in the city of brotherly love. After that, it’s back home for a three-game home-stand against San Diego and then another three-game run against Philadelphia at Great American Ballpark before that long 4-game stretch against the Cubs, which will lead up to ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball presented by Taco Bell broadcast on the 14th that will see that series’ final game.

Jon Sciambi and Chris Singleton will have the call for ESPN Radio. Baseball Tonight: Sunday Night Countdown presented by Chevrolet will precede Sunday night’s game. It will air at 7pm ET on ESPN with Karl Ravech anchoring the broadcast. He will be joined by analyst Aaron Boone and reporters Tim Kurkjian and Nicole Briscoe. There’s lots of other action on the diamond in the weeks leading up to that June 14th broadcast including the the Cardinals on the road against the Dodgers on June 7th and the Angels hosting the Tigers tonight, May 31st.
