Rock outfit Bobby Mahoney have audiences a preview of its forthcoming album, Another Deadbeat Summer this week.
The preview came Friday in the form of the new single, ‘We Go On.’ The musical arrangement featured in the song is an interesting presentation, offering listeners something of a 90s alt-rock vibe throughout its four-minute-plus run time. That vibe is especially noted in the song’s bridge, what with the distinct fuzzed guitar line and rich drums and bass.
According to the band, the single was recorded by the band during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We began tracking ‘We Go On’ in Joe Pomarico’s parent’s basement in September 2020, in the middle of the pandemic,” the band said in a collective statement. “We were masked-up, socially-distanced, etc. We were all starved for human interaction/connection, and live music, so it was important to us that we built the song up from a foundation of us all playing together in a room. It is a song about death, the cosmos, “Enjoying Every Sandwich” as Warren Zevon said.”
The band continued, addressing the song’s existential lyrical theme.
“Like our favorite songs, I believe the impact of our brief time on this planet will echo long after we are gone, but that we owe it to ourselves and the world to leave as many positive echoes as possible, while enjoying and making the most of our own time here before we move onto whatever comes next. Like your favorite song, we go on,” the band said.”
Another Deadbeat Summer is scheduled for release June 14 through Wicked Cool Records.
