Family music artist Eric Herman is giving audiences their first preview of his new album.

Herman premiered the video for his new single, ‘Googly Eyes’ Friday. The song and video are the first from Herman’s forthcoming ninth family music album, Magic Beans, which is scheduled for release March 18 through Butter-Dog Records.

The musical arrangement featured in Herman’s new single is a light, poppy style composition. The combination of the light guitars and drums alongside Herman’s vocals immediately lends itself to comparison to works from Barenaked Ladies.

The lyrical theme featured in ‘Googly Eyes’ is meant to encourage young people’s creative sides, according to comments from Herman about the song and its video.

“That’s what we want from kids and from art, to grow like magic beans beyond our limitations and our expectations,” he said.  “This video is me sticking big ol’ googly eyes onto the stuffiest images on the most hallowed walls in the most hallowed halls of my little corner of the cosmos. Because I really do believe that everything’s better with googly eyes.”
