Sepultura To Stream Upcoming Concert

Courtesy: Nuclear Blast Records

Sepultura is making lemonade out of lemons.

The veteran thrash outfit was recently banned from performing live at The Palace – hamra in Beirut, Lebanon.  According to a news release sent Tuesday from Nuclear Blast Records stated the band was enacted by the nation’s general security office.  No reason for the ban was noted in the release.

The ban, the first ever in the band’s history, forced the band to cancel its performance at the noted venue.  It did not, however, keep the band from performing for its fans in Beirut.

As a result of the Beirut incident, the band announced through the news release, its May 2 performance in Dubai will be streamed online through the band’s official YouTube channel. The concert is scheduled to stream live at 10 p.m. Lebanese time, 9 p.m. CET and 3 p.m. EST.

The band’s members offered thanks to the staff of the Embassy of Brazil in Beirut for their support, Skull Session and Sepulnation around the world for covering the developing situation.

Sepultura’s upcoming live dates are part of an ongoing effort to promote its 2017 album Machine Messiah, which was released January 2017 through Nuclear Blast Records.  Machine Messiah spawned two singles — ‘I Am The Enemy‘ and ‘Phantom Self.’

Sepultura released eight studio interview sessions leading up to the release of Machine Messiah.  The videos are listed below.

Pig To Release New Covers Compilation

Courtesy: Armalyte Industries

Pig will release a new covers collection this summer.

The band, founded and fronted by Raymond Watts, will release the album Candy on June 21 through Armalyte Industries.  The compilation will feature covers of songs from artists and acts, such as Prince (‘Kiss), INXS (‘Never Tear Us Apart) and Hall & Oates (‘I Can’t Go For That’).

Watts said crafting the compilation was the continuation of a process that started last year.

“Making an album of covers was a natural progression from the single I did with Sasha Grey last year — ‘That’s The Way I Like It’ — and the charity EP of Christmas songs I did for International Rescue Committee,” Watts said.  “My versions are like a new takedown of the old order.  I wanted to pull the originals apart to to find a different foundation of what exactly lies beneath.  The fact that these songs not only survive but thrive with this rebirth, reconstruction and reinterpretation shows their inherent greatness.”

The video for Watts’ performance of ‘That’s The Way I Like It’ with Sasha Grey is streaming online now here.

Watts continued, noting he picked the songs in part for what he believed was a deeper meaning behind the songs’ lyrical content.

“The song choice was very quick and easy,” Watts said.  “I’d either suggest something to Eden [Martin, producer and arranger] or he’d throw something into the mix, and we’d give it a go.  Instead of following the cliched ‘American songbook’ route, we chose the ‘cheesy’ pop of Kylie and the Spice Girls because there is another layer and language in those songs that reveal the nature of obsession and longing that hasn’t really been explored.  A song like ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head,’ for example, could be as much the internal dialogue of an addict as it could be the tortured rambling of the freshly broken-hearted…or even the toe-tapping tune of the condemned.”

Candy will be available on CD and deluxe expanded edition vinyl.  The expanded vinyl pressing will feature four bonus tracks not available on the CD platform.  It will be available exclusively through Armalyte Industries’ official website, and will be available in pressings of:

— Fur Edition: Numbered and signed by Raymond Watts and Eden Martin (30 copies)

— Sand paper Edition: Signed by Raymond Watts (40 copies)

— Candy Strip Edition: Numbered and signed by Raymond Watts (60 copies)

— Standard Deluxe Edition: Gatefold vinyl with a diecut sleeve on double, heavyweight vinyl insert (170 copies).

Jason Charles Miller Debuts ‘Running’ Video

Courtesy: Red Music/Century Media

Jason Charles Miller debuted the video for his latest single this week.

Miller debuted the video for the song ‘Running‘ on Friday.  The song is taken from Miller’s latest album Into The Wasteland (2018).  Directed by outlaw country musician Bob Wayne, the video stars Alexander Ward (WestworldAmerican Horror Story ApocalypseSleepy Hollow) and professional Cosplayer Vivid Vivka as a pair of vampires in what proves to be a rather funny story.

Miller talked about the song’s creation and its tie to the video in a recent interview.

“When I wrote the song with Danny Worsnop (Asking Alexandria) and Blue Foley, we came up with the concept of a fallen angel who chose the devil’s side, but then changed his mind,” Miller said.  “He realizes it’s too late to go back, but still tries anyway.  A real heavy subject matter over a riff that’s almost surf rock in nature.  There’s really no other song on the album like this, but the album would feel incomplete without it.”

In talking about the song’s video, Miller said a lot of thought went into the video’s creation.

“Bob and I were brainstorming one day about making a music video,” Miller said.  “I played him ‘Running’ and we knew this was the one he should direct.  I love Bob’s creativity and fearlessness when he makes videos.  Rather than re-tell the story of the song, we thought putting vampires in a haunted house would make the whole thing a lot more interesting to watch.  I mean, vampires!  Lore behind vampires says some of them are fallen angels anyway, so it still worked with the concept.  Getting Vivka and Alexander to play our vampires was the best part.  They did such an amazing job.”

He added, “Finding the right house was key, and luckily I found out about the Historic Harris House through my friend Robert Coshland (who happens to own it), and it turned out to be the perfect place!  We didn’t have to do a thing.  It looks like that all the time!  I consider the house one of the stars of the video as well.  I couldn’t be happier with how it came out and I can’t wait to share it.”

‘Running’ is just the latest single from ‘Into The Wasteland’ to get the video treatment.  The video for ‘Hundred Pound Hammer‘ debuted in November. The video for the album’s title track debuted in June.

ESPN Adds Roddy Jones To ACC Network On-Air Team

Courtesy: ESPN

The ACC Network has added another name to its on-air talent roster.

Former Georgia Tech running back and team captain Roddy Jones was announced this week as the newest member of the network’s talent roster.  Jones currently works as a sideline analyst for ESPN during college football season. According to information provided by ESPN, which owns and operates the ACC Network, Jones’ first day on the job at the ACC Network is Aug. 22, the day the ACC Network officially launches.

Jones was upbeat as he recently talked about moving to the ACC Network.

“To be associated with a conference that is so rich in tradition, history and success, and to work alongside some of the best broadcast and production teams in the nation is truly an honor,” Jones said.  “The ACC has been a huge part of my life.  I grew up in the footprint, played in the conference and now cover it as a broadcaster.  I know firsthand how special it is, and how beneficial ACCN will be to the league.”

Jones was a four-year starter at Georgia Tech from 2008-11.  He was the team’s captain in his senior year at the university.  he broke many school records on the way to defeating Clemson in 2009 in the ACC Championship Game.  Among the team records that he broke were those for career starts (52), yards-per-carry (7.6) and rushing yards (212) in 2008 against Georgia.

Off the field, Jones was a three-time All-ACC Academic Football Team honoree.  He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2010 and earned his MBA in 2013.  This fall marks Jones’ third season with ESPN and its networks.

Saul Signs To Spinefarm Records

Courtesy: O’Donnell Media Group

Saul has a new record label home.

The band recently signed a new deal with Spinefarm Records, which is also home to the likes of Nonpoint, Anti-Flag and Atreyu.

Brothers Blake and Zach Bedsaul form the band’s foundation.  They are joined by William McIlravy (bass, vocals) and Joe Nichols (drums) to round out the band.

A recent Revolver magazine reader poll named Saul as one of the five bands that will break out this year.  That is based on the band’s “catchy, yet heavy take on the alternative metal genre.”

The brothers Bedsaul talked about signing with Spinefarm in a recent interview.

“We have dedicated our lives to the music and idea behind Saul,” the brothers said. “We prepared, hoped and worked diligently toward the day when we could take the leap to the major stage.  Today is that day.  Signing with Spinefarm/Universal is an honor.  It is amazing to have a like-minded label backing us at 100 percent.  It’s a life-changing experience.”

Saul’s current single ‘Brother‘ recently reached No. 1 on Sirius XM’s Octane channel.  The song is also moving on Active Rock Radio charts nationwide.  The song is taken from the band’s recently released EP Aeons.
